Todd Sledge June 20, 2023

Home to more than 20 craft breweries, Fort Collins is often hailed as the “Napa Valley of Craft Beer.” While the city has certainly earned its reputation as a craft beer mecca, there’s a tantalizing array of libations waiting to be discovered beyond the realm of hops and barley.

That’s why we’re embarking on a delightful journey through the drink flights of Fort Collins, where you can savor an abundance of flavors in a single sitting, allowing your taste buds to wander and explore our city’s diverse and exciting beverage scene. We’re sampling spirit flights, wine flights, margarita flights, and even coffee flights, all designed for the adventurous and the indecisive alike!

Margarita or Tequila Flight at Blue Agave Grill

Blue Agave Grill is our go-to in Fort Collins for Southwestern food and tequila-based drinks. And if you can’t choose from their comprehensive tequila menu, fear not! You can try several different tequilas with their tequila flight — just ask your server for details, as the selection rotates weekly. Blue Agave also offers a margarita flight for $14, which includes four of their most popular margaritas: the Blue Agave, Muy Macho, Sangria Swirl, and Presidente! Check out their drink menu for details about both flights.

Spirit Flight at CopperMuse Distillery

CopperMuse Distillery was the original business operating out of what is now The Exchange. They build upon Fort Collins’ legendary craft beer heritage and apply that love of craft to distillation. Their handcrafted spirits include vodka, whiskey, rum, and unique liqueurs which can all be tasted in the Old Town tasting room. And if you want a little bit of everything, their spirit flight includes your choice of four 1-ounce tasters of vodka, gin, rum, infusions, and liqueurs. See the full list here!

Beer Flight at Equinox Brewing

Equinox Brewing has one of our favorite patios in Old Town, perfect for sipping their exceptional beers. They regularly rotate their styles and dispense them in a variety of ways — from regular taps to nitro brews. Adorned with a colorful mural, the dog-friendly beer garden is shaded with shade cloths and umbrellas to keep the intense Colorado sun out of your eyes. Sample a selection of Equinox beers with a flight, which includes six hefty pours of your choice.

Spirit Flight at NOCO Distillery

Tucked away in an industrial area in East Fort Collins, NOCO Distillery is a micro distillery dedicated to producing premium craft spirits, including whiskey, rum, gin, vodka, brandy, aquavit, absinthe, liqueurs, and agave spirits. With a meticulous process that involves using copper stills, slow fermentation, and aging in carefully selected American and European oak casks, they create over 35 different products, showcasing their versatility and commitment to exceptional flavor profiles. Choose a handful of those products with a $20 flight, which includes a ½-ounce pour of your choice of five spirits, excluding their truffle vodkas and reserve whiskeys. Their retail shop is open on weekdays from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m., but they are open for cocktails and tastings on Wednesdays from 5–8 p.m., and Fridays and Saturdays from 4–9 p.m. Reservations are always recommended.

Wine Flight at The OBC Wine Project

After 30 years of brewing award-winning craft beer, Odell Brewing is trying their hand at wine making — and the result is just as good as we could have anticipated from this talented team. The OBC Wine Project is dedicated to the exploration of unique flavor profiles in the world of wine. A wine story told by craft beer makers, the project was born out of the brewery’s shared passion for the art of winemaking. You can taste their creations on draft, in bottle, or in can at their taproom and winery in Fort Collins — or order a red, white, pink or seasonal flight to get a little taste of three different wines. On Fridays, their flights are $10 all day in the winery taproom!

Coffee Flight at Lima Coffee Roasters

Founded in 2018, Lima Coffee Roasters is a relatively new coffee roaster in Fort Collins, with two locations — one inside Foothills Mall and the other in the heart of Old Town. Their focus is on roasting coffee with the intention of highlighting each bean’s natural flavors. With over 10 years of experience in the coffee industry, Lima Coffee Roasters offers a variety of blends and single-origin beans, perfect for any coffee enthusiast. Their Old Town shop is the ideal spot to enjoy a cup of coffee and catch up with friends or work, with both indoor and outdoor seating available. The exterior is lined with plenty of cute white cafe tables, many of which are in the shade! Plus, their Old Town location also offers a coffee flight of their seasonal drinks, which is always changing. That way, you can try their rotating, unique offerings all at once — and decide which is your favorite!

Spirit Flight at Old Elk Distillery

Known for their Slow Cut™ Proofing Process, Old Elk Distillery is a world-class distillery based right here in Fort Collins. To proof their whiskeys, the Old Elk team spends weeks (instead of days) adding small increments of water to keep the liquid cool and preserve the delicate and refined flavors they are known for. Their boutique cocktail bar, The Reserve on Linden Street is where you can try a wide selection of Old Elk products, alongside a comprehensive food menu with hearty entrees, burgers, shareables, charcuterie, bar snacks, and more. Cider Flight at Scrumpy’s Hard Cider Bar

Since its inception in 2012, Scrumpy’s Hard Cider Bar, the home of Summit Hard Cider, has evolved from a humble space into a beautiful tap house with 48 rotating taps. Beyond offering an extensive selection of cider, beer, wine, and mead, Scrumpy’s embodies a passion for sustainability by utilizing unwanted apples and other fruits, transforming them into delightful beverages and contributing to waste reduction efforts in the Fort Collins community and beyond. Of the Summit Hard Cider options, you can choose from 15 flavors — fruity, dry and everything in between, but if you’re indecisive, the cider flight is the way to go! Simply ask your bartender for a flight list and pick eight (yes, eight!) of their ciders to try for just $15. Check out what’s on tap before you go.

Bourbon Flight at Social

Social offers one of our favorite cocktail experiences in all of Fort Collins. This speakeasy-esque underground cocktail bar in Old Town serves an inventive array of cocktails, from the classic Old Fashioned to favorites like La Bicyclette, made with gin, elderflower liqueur, Lillet Blanc, and apple bitters. If you’re looking to sample some straight spirits, order one of their featured three-spirit flights, which includes three ¾-ounce pours at a 25% discount. The Bowman Brothers Small Batch flight offers notes of mint, ginger, tobacco, thyme, chocolate and light fruit. The Isaac Bowman Port Barrel Finish flight has notes of under-ripe plum and sour cherry, balanced with caramel, vanilla and oak. And finally, the John J. Bowman Single Barrel flight offers notes of green apple, chocolate, toffee, baked bread, and vanilla. Check out the menu for more information about each flight and their other offerings, including food.

Beer Flight at The Mayor of Old Town

Nestled in the heart of (you guessed it!) Old Town, The Mayor of Old Town is a nationally recognized, premier beer bar and restaurant, offering a vast selection of craft beers. The establishment was founded in 2011 by Group Real Estate agent Kevin and Barb Bolin, and in late 2020, it was sold to Avery, Wes, Tory, and Berenice, a local family deeply rooted in Northern Colorado’s rich culinary and beverage traditions. The Mayor of Old Town has an impressive lineup of 100 beers on tap, including just about every type of beer you can imagine, including extra pale ales, hazy IPAs, barrel aged sours, imperial stouts, red ales, milk stouts, and much much more. Try a range of options with a flight, which gives you four pours of your choice! And if you have at least six people with you and you have four hours to kill, you could go for The Mayor’s Flight, which includes a flight of all 100 beers (or as many beers as they have on tap). They will serve 10 beers at a time, which are 3-5 ounces each. There are several rules associated with this flight, so be sure to check out this info — and call ahead and make a reservation in advance!

Wine Flight at The Welsh Rabbit

The Welsh Rabbit began as a cheese shop on the outskirts of Old Town and has grown into one of Fort Collins’ most talked about shops and restaurants. Now, the family team operates the original cheese shop and The Welsh Rabbit Bistro right around the corner. In the Bistro, they serve seasonally inspired and carefully crafted small bites, cheeses and charcuteries, handmade desserts, and local beers and ciders, in addition to one of Downtown’s best wine lists. To sample a selection of their wines, order either the White Wine Flight or the Red Wine Flight, which includes 2 ounces of three different wines curated seasonally to complement their current menu selection.
